My video with SmartSound music was flagged by YouTube for copyright violation?

If you have purchased music from SmartSound or one of our Authorized Dealers, or it came with one of our authorized plug-ins, the music is properly licensed for use in videos on YouTube. Some (not all) of the copyright holders of some of our music have issued various licenses for their works. However, YouTube’s music identification system is not able to distinguish between different licenses, just the works themselves. Therefore improper flagging of music can sometimes happen. If you received a notice from YouTube regarding our music in your video there are a couple of options to consider:

A. Simply do nothing: Doing nothing allows YouTube to place an ad on your video or channel page.

For some of our corporate customers, allowing some other company’s ad on their YouTube page or channel is not acceptable. However if this is not the case for you, or it wouldn’t cause any conflicts for you, the very easiest thing to do is to simply do nothing which allows YouTube to place an ad on your video or channel page. The problem should be fully addressed at this point.

B. If accepting the monetization or the placement of an ad on your video is not an option for you consider switching your video channel to Vimeo. Not only are they completely ad-free, they also happen to be a partner of SmartSound's with SmartSound as one of their music suppliers. SmartSound uses Vimeo to host its many video tutorials and tips and tricks videos:

C. If accepting the monetization or an ad, or switching to Vimeo, are not options for you then you can submit a claim in one of the following ways. Note: It’s important to know the name of the third party claiming the copyright.

We have partnered with two companies that can facilitate the claims process for you directly. Important note: These companies can only handle claims for affiliates of theirs and will not be able to handle claims if the third party is not affiliated with them. Both companies will be able to pre-clear YouTube channels if the music used on the entire channel is exclusively from SmartSound. Using non-SmartSound music on any video on the channel will disqualify that channel from pre-clearance by these two companies.

AdRev is able to handle claims from several of Smartsound’s music providers, current and past. These include Prolific Arts Music, Music Bakery and Universal Music Group, which owns Killer Tracks, a past supplier of music to SmartSound. If you need to dispute a claim for a track from any one of these companies, or from AdRev, please click on the link below and provide your name, email address, the YouTube URL of the video and the following sentence in the Message part of the form: "Licensed from SmartSound, please release the claim." A team member from AdRev will be prompt to assist. Again, please only submit claims from AdRev or any of the companies mentioned:

BFM Digital (formerly known as Big Fish Media), is another popular provider of YouTube usage monitoring. BFM worked with Sound Ideas and Westar Music, current suppliers of music to SmartSound. As of June 1, 2014, BFM Digital's catalog is now being managed by The Orchard. If you need to dispute a claim for a track from any one of these companies, or from BFM, please send an email to disputes@theorchard.com and provide your name, the YouTube URL of the video, the name of the track(s), and the following sentence in the subject line of your email: "Licensed from SmartSound, please release the claim." A team member from The Orchard will be prompted to assist.

If your claim did not come from one of the above companies, and you cannot switch your channel to Vimeo or have an ad placed on your video, please submit the following information to licensing@smartsound.com: Your name, email address, the URL of the YouTube video, the name of the track(s), the composer and publisher of the track(s) (found on our website, or in the Info section of Sonicfire Pro), the 3rd Party company making the claim, and their contact info (usually supplied by YouTube in their notice). We will do our best to respond as promptly as possible to your request. To the extent additional partners become available we will add them to this page. Thank you for your understanding.
